The Republican Party is about to be handed the largest unearned political victory in human history. Between the wheels falling off the economy and exhaustion from the futile effort to stop the pandemic, the Democrats are fixing to get their asses handed to them in next year’s midterm elections. Unfortunately, the Republicans are unprepared to capitalize on this opportunity beyond nominating the standard group of party ass kissers whose only agenda is to shovel money and favors at party donors and loyalists. After a couple of years of these compliant stuffed shirts ignoring issues and handing out favors with both hands, the electorate will forget about how inept the Democrats are. We will lose the opportunity to reduce government power, and the Progressives will resume the incremental march to socialism.
The Republicans have not earned their chance to rule. Several Republican outliers stood up to the COVID nonsense and made the pandemic response a political issue. For the most part, the party had no strategy for dealing with the heterodox public policy and the extra-constitutional actions taken by Democratic governors and legislatures that likely cost Trump and other Republicans the last election. If Republicans couldn’t get their act together enough to protect their political victories, you can't expect them to do much to protect your interests. The Republican Party is reactionary and therefore cannot mount an offensive to roll back the excesses of the first year of the Bidden administration let alone any of the oppressive policies enacted since the Progressive era began.
I suggest that it is time to infiltrate the Republican party. As to how this might work, I have no idea. The major parties have put up barriers to prevent challenges by third parties after the success of Ross Perot and John Anderson. The parties have also created new measures to defeat candidates not favored by party leadership since Bernie Sanders, Ron Paul, and Donald Trump challenged the parties' centralized control. It will be difficult to challenge Republican political insiders in the upcoming primaries. If there are not successful efforts to primary Republican insiders, the best chance to change the direction of the US government in generations will go to waste.
It would be interesting to hear what strategies candidates and political activists will employ to take advantage of this opportunity. I assume that several political actors are smelling blood in the water and are getting ready to go on the attack.
